Old Dog New Tricks

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

One of the most damaging and erroneous piece of wisdom that is in our culture today is, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks!”

We would be surprised at the garbage some folks carry around inside their heads!

Several months ago I was standing behind the pulpit addressing a particular situation about a ladies income, and I said this person was on a limited income.

A gentlemen spoke up and said, “Who limited it?” I thought, this is my story, let me tell it like I want to tell it. But, the more I thought about it the more I knew he was right.

Who limited it? I’ll never forget that. Proverbs 25:11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.

We have folks who want to go to the next level, yet they hang on to their old way of thinking. Some believe you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, more than they believe they can do all things through Christ which strengthen them.

Number one, I’m not a dog! You’re not either. So, don’t let a dumb idea like that get around your neck and strangle your creative thinking.

Don’t let the devil or the person you see in the mirror every morning talk you out of the time of your life! Don’t talk yourself into dying or giving up before your time. Don’t limit yourself!

Nobody cares how old you are but you. People only care about what you can do and you can do anything you want at any age.

When you’ve lived it up! When you’ve done it all! When you’ve rang the bell! When you’ve preached to thousands! When all your family has accepted Christ as Lord and Savior. When the last person has walked the aisle.

Hey! Hey! Hey!

Then pull the sheet over my face! But, until then, let me live! Let me sing! Let me preach! Let me build more church buildings! Buy more television time!

Let me live with no limitation!

A Pastor was lying on his death bed and called for two members of his church, a lawyer and a doctor.

Knowing in a few moments he would slip out into eternity. The lawyer sat on one side holding his hand and the doctor on the other side holding the other hand.

Tears began to run down their faces at the thought that he had chosen them to spend his last moments with.

Finally, it was all the lawyer could stand and quietly he said, Pastor,, Pastor,, Doc and I are so honored you asked us to share these last moments with you. But, of all your many members, why did you choose us?

With a weak voice the Pastor said Sirs, “When Jesus left this world, He left between two thieves and I wanted to leave just like he left.”

We need to live our life to the fullest. Don’t allow wrong thinking to hobble you down.
