Nacho Mentality

St. John 10:10

10. The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

For many years we traveled going from church to church, singing and preaching. We saw times of plenty and times that were very lean. So we learned to be thrifty.

El Chico’s restaurant was our favorite place to eat. Because we could get plenty for little. I could feed my entire family and get plenty for $11.21. We had it down to a science.

They served plenty of chips and hot sauce and did not charge for it. They would even bring out those corn tortillas and butter free. We knew what to order and how to have abundance, all for $11.21. You must understand this was not a one time ordeal, this was a way of life!

One item that was included in the $11.21, was an order of Nachos. Not the supreme, just cheese and Jalapeno peppers.

One night we were introducing some friends of ours from California to our favorite eating place. These folks were worth millions!

As I had hundreds of times in the past, I ordered my nachos just like I liked them! However, when they were brought out, because they were considered appetizers, my rich friends passed them down the table for everyone to eat. This was not funny.

I looked at my wife, my wife looked at me, as if to say did you see that. He is sharing our nacho’s.

It upset me, not to the point I would say anything because he was a strong contributor, but to the point I am offended. I ordered these nachos for myself and my wife and now he is passing them around the table.

Now we were not poor by any means but neither were we as rich as he was. This man could have bought that restaurant! He had enough money to start his own nacho factory! But the truth is if he owned a Nacho factory it would not help me any because I had developed a way of thinking. I had developed a pattern.

Folks, if we are not careful we will develop deep seated patterns of thinking, where it doesn’t matter how much abundance we have available to us, we can never walk in it because we bring that same mentality with us from the past. We attempt to operate in the abundance with the NACHO MENTALITY.

We are sitting at the table with millions and we are locked into an “$11.21 NACHO MENTALITY.”

If we are ever going to move from not enough, to more than enough, we need to change our thinking as well

I had a multimillionaire tell me nearly 15 years ago. He said, “Arthur, you are one of the greatest preachers I have ever heard. Your family sings beautiful, but the way you think about money is all wrong!”

And then He said, “I am going to change the way you think about money.” I thought, “GO FOR IT!” He said, “If you will ever conquer the way you think about money nothing can stop you!”

Please don’t be offended. This possibly is not your story, but it was mine. Still some folks are more committed to the ball and chain of poverty than they are to the key that can set them free!
